THE GARDEN BRIDGE SECRETS OF JOHNSON, TFL & KHAN

20 Jan 2017

A lot of attention has been put onto the Garden Bridge Trust and their lack of public consultation, communication and the general way they have hidden behind spin, PR, trickery and legalities. But there are other, arguably more concerning, ways in which the truth is being concealed from the public from our elected bodies.

This is a quick look at the ways Boris Johnson, Sadiq Khan and TfL have attempted to close transparency, discussion and understanding of the Garden Bridge.

BORIS JOHNSON

In a FOI published this week (PDF) there was one small, but massively troubling, section:

It appears that ALL emails from Boris Johnson and his team may have been deleted. This is troubling for accountability which has been compared to other corporate strategies:

@se1 wow. The GLA's "IT Staff Departure Procedure" is eerily similar to Enron's.

TRANSPORT FOR LONDON

In a separate FOI this week (PDF) TfL used up their annual black ink usage for some incredible redacting of meetings between the GBT, TfL and Coin Street Community Builders.

SADIQ KHAN

For well over a year now the Mayor of London has consistently refused to meet with the local community, experts who have shed light on the Garden Bridge issues or informed opponents of the development. A few months back he stated this was because there was an ongoing Judicial Review by Thames Central Open Spaces and to meet with them could affect that political outcome. Which is nonsense.

In any case, not all opponents are connected to TCOS and there was no reason that he should not meet with the informed experts who know the project, and its issues, deeply.

And now that the Judicial Review is well in the past, there is no reason that Sadiq continues to refuse to talk to those who understand the project better than any. He does appear to be giving a lot of time and energy entertaining the Garden Bridge Trust, so why not the people who elected you, Sadiq?

Please drop him an email asking him NOT TO SIGN THE GARDEN BRIDGE GUARANTEE and asking him to meet with TCOS, opponants and experts of the development.
